I have had silkies. I had a white hen like this one here. When she had chicks she would chase the Danes. She would fly at them about 3 feet off the ground and they would all run! She was a great Mom and really enjoyable to watch. Just no one wanted to get too close when she had babies. I had a blue silkie rooster who rode on the axle of my car about 6 miles. I made 2 stops-unaware that he was there and then when I stopped at Ella’s daycare, he hopped off. One of the day care kids remarked on the little “turkey” in the driveway (there was a turkey farm across the road). I was shocked when I saw it was him!!! I scooped him up and threw him in the back seat with Ella and the dogs and took him home!!
You have the best animal stories ever :). Our silkies are still just babies (Silkie eggs were Honour’s birthday present in October) but they are SO sweet and lovely. We hatched out one with a single comb (totally improper!) and the comb is all crumpled to one side of his/her head because there’s no room for it; it’s completely adorable. We have a couple of white ones that are looking really good, huge topknots and lots of feathers on their feet, so Honour can show them if she wants to, but I suspect she’d prefer them to be shoulder passengers and buddies.
